President’s Condolence Message to our Community on the Passing of Dr. Michael Manio

(Message from Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor)

Dear Students and Colleagues,

I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt condolences upon hearing about the passing of our beloved colleague and Senior Resident Tutor at College 1, Dr. Michael Manio.

Losing someone we know and respect is never easy, especially when it happens so suddenly. For those of you who had a close relationship with Dr. Manio—whether as a mentor, friend, or source of support—please know that your grief is understood and shared. His kindness and guidance touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt.

The University has reached out to Dr. Manio’s family to offer our sympathies and support during this difficult time.

At the same time, your well-being is equally important. Grieving can be a complex process, and you may feel a variety of emotions. Please remember that you are not alone—your teachers, College tutors, and the CEDARS support team are here for you. Do not hesitate to seek comfort, talk about your feelings, or ask for support if you need it.

While words can never fully ease the pain of this loss, I invite you to cherish the memories of Dr. Manio and the positive impact he made on our community. He will always remain a cherished member of the HKU family. My thoughts are with each of you during this difficult time.

With deepest sympathy,

Professor Xiang Zhang

President and Vice-Chancellor
