Vision

At College 1, we believe that true wellbeing is the foundation of a fulfilling and successful college experience. Our commitment to resident wellbeing is not just a priority, but our core value. We understand that wellbeing is multifaceted and deeply personal, encompassing emotional, social, physical, cognitive, spiritual, and financial dimensions. Each aspect is equally important, and together, they create a holistic sense of balance and fulfillment.

10 Building Blocks

We embrace the PERMA5 Intervention Framework. At College 1, we are proud to adopt the PERMA5 intervention framework, a powerful and evidence-based approach to fostering holistic wellbeing. Rooted in the foundational work of Professor Martin Seligman’s PERMA model, this framework was further developed and expanded into PERMA5 by Professor Jana Kočí. PERMA5 goes beyond the original five pillars to include 10 essential building blocks of wellbeing, ensuring a comprehensive and multidimensional approach to supporting our residents.

UNDERSTAND
We believe in the power of knowledge to drive meaningful change. That’s why we are the first residential hall at HKU to conduct a comprehensive research project on the subjective perception of student wellbeing. This initiative helps us understand the unique needs of our residents. At the same time, we provide self-assessment tools to all residents, empowering them to reflect on their own wellbeing, whether or not they choose to participate in the research.

TAKE ACTION
Understanding is just the first step, but action is where transformation happens. We organize a variety of events and workshops designed to target different dimensions of wellbeing. From self-compassion workshops and box breathing sessions to posture-setting classes, our programs are tailored to help residents build resilience, foster connections, and thrive in all aspects of life.

EMBED
Wellbeing isn’t just a program, it’s a way of life at College 1. We’ve made it a core part of our philosophy, ensuring that this value is reflected in everything our tutorial team does. From daily interactions to long-term planning, our team is guided by the principle of holistic wellbeing, keeping it at the forefront of their minds and actions.
