It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to College 1 — a vibrant, diverse, and forward-looking residential community nestled within the Jockey Club Student Village IV at the University of Hong Kong.

College 1 is more than just a residence. It is a “home away from home” a space where students from different backgrounds come together to live, learn, and grow. Guided by our core values of community engagement and holistic wellbeing, we are committed to cultivating a caring and inclusive environment that supports our students academically, socially, and personally.

Our College was founded on the belief that university life extends far beyond the classroom. Through shared experiences, thoughtful reflection, and a strong spirit of collaboration, our residents are encouraged to embrace the full spectrum of student life. We take pride in being the first College to initiate independent research on student wellbeing in residential settings, reflecting our deep commitment to fostering growth across all six dimensions of wellbeing — social, emotional, spiritual, physical, cognitive, and financial.
We are also passionate about nurturing student leadership. From participating in College events and joining activity teams to initiating community projects, students here have endless opportunities to shape their own experiences while making meaningful contributions to the wider community. At College 1, every student is a valued member and a potential changemaker.

University life can sometimes be overwhelming. Whether you are facing personal struggles, academic pressure, or moments of uncertainty, please know that you are not alone. No matter what challenges you may encounter, our Master and Tutor Team — and the entire College 1 family — will walk alongside you. We are here to listen, support, and empower you, every step of the way.
